Unclaimed Deposit / Forgotten Account

I Think I Have an Old or Forgotten Bank Deposit — Where Do I Start?

If you remember having an old savings/current account, fixed deposit or another deposit but are unsure what happened to it, start by checking whether the money is still lying unclaimed.

If You Know the Bank

Check the bank’s website for its unclaimed-deposit search facility or contact the bank directly.

If You Are Not Sure Which Bank Holds the Deposit

Use RBI’s UDGAM (Unclaimed Deposits – Gateway to Access inforMation) Portal to search for unclaimed deposits across participating banks.

Search through RBI’s official UDGAM Portal UDGAM helps you search for unclaimed deposits and identify the bank where the deposit is held.

For your safety: Use only the official RBI UDGAM portal. Never share your OTP, PIN, password or banking credentials with anyone offering to find or recover an unclaimed deposit for you.

What Is an Unclaimed Deposit?

In general, when an eligible deposit or amount remains unclaimed for 10 years or more, it is transferred by the bank to RBI’s Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund.

Your money is not lost merely because it has been transferred to the DEA Fund. You can still claim it through the bank. In an eligible case involving a deceased depositor, the appropriate claimant or legal heir can also pursue the claim through the bank.
You claim the money from the bank — not directly from RBI.

How Do I Search on RBI’s UDGAM Portal?

UDGAM provides a central place to search for unclaimed deposits available through participating banks.

1

Open the Official RBI UDGAM Portal

Visit the official UDGAM website (link above) and register or log in as required.

2

Select the Bank(s) You Want to Search

Select the relevant bank or banks. This is particularly useful when you are unsure where an old deposit is held.

3

Enter the Account Holder’s Details

Search using the account holder’s name together with the identifying information requested by UDGAM. Depending on the search, this may include details such as PAN, driving licence number, voter ID, passport number, date of birth or address.

4

Check the Search Results

If a matching unclaimed deposit is found, note or save the available details, including the Unclaimed Deposit Reference Number (UDRN).

I Found My Deposit on UDGAM — What Do I Do Next?

UDGAM helps you locate the unclaimed deposit. It does not settle or pay your claim. Once you find a matching deposit, the next step is to deal with the concerned bank.
1

Note the UDRN / Search Details

Keep the information shown in the UDGAM search result so that you can refer to it while approaching the bank.

2

Approach the Concerned Bank

Follow the bank’s procedure for claiming the unclaimed deposit or reactivating the account, as applicable.

3

Complete the Bank’s Verification / KYC Requirements

Provide the information and documents required by the bank to establish your identity and entitlement to the deposit.

4

The Bank Processes the Eligible Claim

Even where the amount has already been transferred to RBI’s DEA Fund, the customer’s eligible claim is handled through the bank. The bank deals with reimbursement from the DEA Fund under the applicable process.
